Sea Turtle Hatchlings Released At Sea In Mati City Reached 105,000

MATI CITY – For three years, 105,000 sea turtle hatchlings were released by an environment conservation group in Mati City, Davao Oriental.

According to a report from ABS-CBN, the local city Information Office said that the city has the most number of sea turtle releases based on the survey from Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR).

The city is rich in marine wildlife where Green turtles, Hawksbilsl, at Olive Ridleys lay eggs in Dahican beach in the city yearly.

Local environment conservation group Amihan sa Dahican- Save our Seas said that they are determined to help take care of marine wildlife species.

The group conducted patrols every night in the beach to check if there are any eggs hatch. The egss would then be taken to the hatchery.

The group is recognized as the 6th Gawad Bayani ng Kalikasan and was featured in international television channels such as National Geographic and Animal Planet, based on the report.
