This was recommended by the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID), according to a report from Panay News.

Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said in an online press that President Rodrigo Duterte approved such recommendation.

This will be the third straight month in Iloilo City for being placed under MGCQ, while Bacolod City will be under this state for fourth consecutive month to be under the lighter community quarantine status.

Since June last year, Iloilo Province, Negros Occidental, Guimaras, Aklan, Antique, and Capiz have been under the MGCQ status.

Before the announcement was made, there were hopes that some areas that were under MGCQ, including the region, could shift to new normal classification.

Roque said that the IATF-EID was finalizing guidelines, including the dos and the don’ts, on “new normal” for places that have no COVID-19 transmission for a long time, based on the report.

“Sa gayon po magkaroon tayo ng pag-asa talagang may katapusan itong COVID-19 pandemic na ito dahil although wala pang bakuna, may mga lugar nang walang transmission,”
