NBI Sole Agency To Investigate PNP-PDEA Shootout

PNP-PDEA SHOOTOUT – The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) will be the only agency to investigate the shootout of the Philippine National Police and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency.

President Rodrigo Duterte ordered the NBI to probe the Quezon City shootout between the two agencies to ensure impartiality. Furthermore, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said it was the NBI’s mandate to probe incidents between uniformed officers.

As such, Roque said that Duterte halted the joint board of inquiry between the PNP and PDEA. Meanwhile, the PNP said that it was ready to do whatever the President instructs them to.

Likewise, PDEA spokesperson Derrick Carreon said there was nothing more to add to the President’s mandate. According to an article from Inquirer, he said: “That is the directive of PRRD“.

However, this isn’t the first case that the NBI investigated that involved different law enforcement agencies. Still, NBI Director Eric Distor said that this case would be given priority.

Currently, it’s still unclear what caused the shootout which led to the deaths of two police officers, a PDEA agent, and one of their informants.

Along with this, Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte was dismayed due to being left out of the operation. As per the article, she said:

I think it’s not fair that the city government should be left out
