ARMED MEN KIDNAP 300 SCHOOLGIRLS – Authorities are preparing for an operation to rescue 300 schoolgirls who were kidnapped from their school.

However, earlier attempts to pinpoint their location had failed almost 24 hours after the armed men raided their school in Zamfara state. According to reports, the governor ordered all boarding schools to close following increased kidnappings.

Furthermore, this was the second kidnapping that occurred in just shy of a week. Additionally, the region had become a hotpot for militants and criminal gangs.

Based on an article from GMA, the police and the army were working together to capture the bandits who took 317 girls from the Government Girls Science Secondary School. Additionally, police said the girls were transferred to a neighboring forest close to the city.

“There’s information that they were moved to a neighboring forest, and we are tracking and exercising caution“, said Zamfara police commissioner Abutu Yaro.

The incident occured at around 1:00 a.m. They entered school grounds and began firing sporadically. However, by late Friday, no know groups claimed responsibility of the raid.

Police reports said that some girls were taken via vehicles while others were transferred by foot. Meanwhile, the delegation committee expressed frustration as “people mobilized to block security operatives, journalists and government officials from getting access to the main town“.

Apparently, people were angry at the government for not doing enough to rescue their kids. As such, parents and other residents decided to take matters in their own hands.

All of us that have had our children abducted have agreed to follow them into the forest. We will not listen to anyone now until we rescue our children“, one of the resident’s said.
