69 Volcanic Earthquakes Detected In Taal Volcano In Past 24 Hours

69 VOLCANIC EARTHQUAKES DETECTED – The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) detected 69 tremors in Taal Volcano amid its unrest.

Furthermore, Philvocs said each tremor lasted for about one to 61 minutes each. However, despite the activity, only weak steam-laden plumes were released at the vents of the main crater.

Currently, local authorities are still on alert as Phivolcs cautioned not to enter Taal’s Permanent Danger Zone (PDZ). Moreover, Local government units continue to assess previously evacuated areas near Taal Lake for damages.

Meanwhile, temperatures as high as 74.6 degrees Celsius and a pH level of 1.59 were measured at the main crater lake. Along with this, ground deformation and a slight deflation around the crater was also detected.

But, Philvocs emphasized that it was very slow and steady inflation of the Taal region. As such, the Taal Volcano was still placed under Alert Level 1.

With this, Philvocs warns of sudden steam-driven phreatic explosions, volcanic earthquakes, minor ashfall, and lethal build-up of volcanic gas around areas within Taal Volcano Island.
