Soldier Wounded In Clash Between Rebels In San Joaquin, Iloilo
SAN JOAQUIN – A soldier was wounded in a fight between troops of 79th Infantry Battalion and New People’s Army rebels in San Joaquin, Iloilo.
The encounter between government troops and New People’s Army, according to Panay News.
The soldier, who is Private First Class, had gunshot wounds on the chest and right arm. He is currently receiving medical treatment and was already in stable condition, 3rd Infantry Division spokesperson Captain Cenon Pancito III said.
The encounter, which started at around 1:51 PM lasted for 30 minutes. 791B soldiers were conducting house-to-house visits in Barangay Iglilico when it happened.
Pancito reported that the rebels are said to be members of the NPA’s Suyak Platoon led by Joven Ceralvo alias “Ka Lex.”
The rebels fled after Army augmentation troops arrived. Pancito urged residents to immediately report the presence of suspected NPA rebels in their barangays to authorities.
Based on the report, the NPA, which was founded in March 29, 1969, is the armed wing of the Communist Party of the Philippines.
