Japan Records 90 New COVID-19 Variants From Overseas

JAPAN RECORDS NEW COVID-19 VARIANTS – Health officials in Japan reported at least 90 new cases of mutated coronavirus variants.

Recently, there has been an influx of new COVID-19 strains across the globe. Early in January, the U.K. announced a new, more transmissible virus strain. Meanwhile, South Africa also reported its own COVID-19 mutation, one that was found resistant to some vaccines.

However, the new cases found in Japan weren’t from the UK, South Africa, or Brazil. According to Chief Cabinet Secretary Katsunobo Kato, the cases were from overseas however, it was different from the UK and South African strain.

Based on a report from ABS-CBN, the new mutant strain was known as E484K. Furthermore, 91 cases of this virus strain was found in the Kanto area of eastern Japan. Along with this, 2 cases were found at airports.

Currently, Japan has documented 151 cases of the new variant strains from Britain, South Africa, and Brazil. Moreover, the total number of coronavirus cases reported in the country is at 400,000. Sadly, 7,194 patients succumbed to the deadly disease.
