Los Baños residents were alarmed after the sewers inside of the subdivision emit thick steam and the water can be heard boiling.

Barangay captain Bobit Meneses of Barangay Tadlac reported that the sewers are emitting thick steams and the water underneath the sewers are boiling. He also filmed the incident and garnered reactions from the netizens.

“Ito po ‘yung mga nireport na lumabas na nagbibigay ng steam. Kung lalapit po kayo, madirinig niyo na kumukulo ang tubig. Pati rin po sa bandang doon. Ayan po maliwanag na napakalakas ng usok. Ngayon lang po nangyari ito,” Meneses said.

Meneses posted the video online for authorities to notice the incident. The residents in the area are worrying and fearing that Mt. Makiling may erupt sooner or later because their subdivision is near the volcano.

The Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office and local offices would also conduct an investigation regarding the incident. The authorities also said that the thick steam is reportedly caused by the hot spring.

“Most likely doon lumalabas kasi sarado, may pavement. Humahanap siya kung saan siya sisingaw. So singaw lang talaga siya,” officer Ronilo Salac said.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology explained that a hot spring may have been covered resulting it to emit steam in sewers.
