Village Chief Arrested Over Illegal Firearms In Baggao Town, Cagayan

BAGGAO TOWN – A village chief, 52 years of age, was arrested after he yielded firearms and bullets during a search in Baggao town, Cagayan.

Cagayan police director Col. Ariel Quilang, identified the suspect as Ruben Salvador of Barangay Agaman Norte in the said Cagayan town.

Police have conducted a search in the village chief’s house based on a warrant that was issued by Judge Sheila Gacutan-Labuguen of the Municipal Trial Court in the town.

Seized from the police were a mortar, various guns and ammunition, and assorted communist documents from the suspect’s residence.

Salvador will be charged with  illegal possession of explosives and firearms. The police also said that they received information that Salvador was harboring communists visiting the village.

Earlier this month, the government of Datu Montawal, Maguindanao yielded over a dozen high-powered firearms to the Philippine Army.

The turnover occurred on Thursday, February 4, 2021. The Western Mindanao Command commander said that the firearms were yielded by residents of the town to the government.

The activity was conducted by town mayor Ohto Montawal at the Session Hall of the municipal hall.
