Patient From Cebu With UK Virus Variant Staying In Parañaque

PATIENT WITH UK VIRUS VARIANT – An individual who was found positive for the new UK coronavirus strain from Cebu was staying in Paranaque since November.

Recently, more coronavirus cases of the new UK coronavirus variant was reported in the Philippines. Among those cases was a patient who was originally from Liloan, Cebu.

However, according to the Department of Health, the patient was staying in Parañaque since November 17 until he was tested on January 17. Furthermore, DOH-Central Visayas spokesperson Dr. Mary Jean Loreche emphasized that he has not returned home since.

During na interview with ABS-CBN’s Teleradyo, she said:

Yang kaso na galing sa Liloan, hindi ‘yan dito talaga. Ang kanyang home address na nakasulat ay Liloan. Pero from November 17 hanggang sa siya ay naswab noong January 17, nandyan siya sa Manila, naka-stay siya sa Parañaque mula November hanggang January

According to Loreche, the patient took a swab test as a requirement for a job abroad. After the patient was tested, he stayed in Parañaque until the results were released on February 5, Loreche added.

However, the patient’s travel history is still being investigated. Moreover, the DOH is still trying to figure out how he was exposed to the virus. Meanwhile, three others from Bontoc Mountain Province and two others fro La Trinidad, Benguet, tested positive for the UK strain.

Additionally, two returning OFWs were also found positive for the virus. As such, the total number of UK virus strain-positive patients in the country is now 25.
