A dealer said that due to the shortage of supply, they are raising the price. Based on the report of Remate, they said they should not have blamed the market as they only set a price cap and because they are only selling.

The Manila Meat Dealers Association also blames hog raisers for the increase in pork prices. These pig farmers insist that many pigs were killed due to the outbreak of African swine fever (ASF).

Some retailers, on the other hand, have warned that they will not sell pork within 60 days of its implementation to avoid losing revenues. On Wednesday, Duterte also approved the formation of an inter-agency task group to preview price increases as well as traders and wholesalers.

Since last year, the ASF outbreak continues to spread in various countries all around the world including the Philippines. ASF has already affected thousands of Filipino hog raisers in the country.
