San Juan City Issues Executive Order Regulating Chinese New Year Activities

San Juan City will regulate the activities during the celebration of Chinese New Year to avoid the risk of COVID-19 transmission.

San Juan Mayor Francis Zamora issued an executive order regulating the activities during the celebration of the Chinese New Year on February 12, 2021. The guideline applies in public and private places.

The executive order only allows a maximum of 10 persons in every activity. The new measures aims to prevent the possible spread of coronavirus disease within the attendees of the annual festival.

“Only a maximum of ten (10) persons for every event, activity, or festivity in celebration of the Chinese New Year shall be allowed. This guideline is applicable in both public (parks, malls, restaurants) and private (homes, subdivisions, condominiums) places,” the EO reads.

Zamora also instructed business establishments such as malls and restaurants to comply with the health protocols during the Chinese New Year festivities. He also ordered the authorities to strictly implement the measure.

The City Traffic and Parking Management Office, Public Order and Safety Office, Task Force Disiplina, Barangay Officials and Police/Task Force and Barangay Tanods as well as law enforcers to impose the EO strictly in the city.

The local government of Manila has already banned the traditional activities such as dragon dance, street party, stage show, parade and other event amid the coronavirus pandemic.
