Manila Rewards P100k to 200 Barangays w/ No New COVID-19 Cases

P100k Reward Given to 200 Barangays in Manila For Having No New COVID-19 Cases For Past 2 Months

The City of Manila gives a reward of P100, 000 to over 200 barangays with no new COVID-19 cases since December and January.

On Tuesday (February 2, 2021), Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso announced that more than 200 COVID-19-free barangays in the City of Manila would receive P100, 000 each. Those villages are free of coronavirus disease for the past two months.

“Two hundred plus and ating Covid-free barangays (There are 200 plus Covid-19 free barangays) from the past two months, for the entire December and January,” Moreno said.

The Manila City government also rewarded around 73 barangays with the same amount last November 2020 for having no new cases of COVID-19. 28 more barangays have been added later on.

Moreno said that it is cheaper to spend some amount of money for rewards rather than spending a huge amount for implementing new measures if COVID-19 cases would spike again. It is also an act of appreciation towards the effort of barangays.

“The logic is it is cheaper to spend for that kind of amount of money. It certifies na in our own little way, naaappreciate ng syudad, na ito ang aming appreciation,” Moreno added.
