Lacson Still Praise Pacquiao

In the statement released by the WBA, Pacquiao is now “Champion in Recess” where his Super Champion belt was removed due to inactivity. The WBA said that removing the belt from the boxing icon is according to rule C.14.

“Pacquiao won the Super Champion belt in July 2019 when he defeated American Keith Thurman, however, he has not defended the belt since then,” the WBA said in its website.

“Rule C.22-24 states that when a champion is unable to defend the belt for medical, legal or other reasons beyond his control, he may be named champion in recess,” it added.

Meanwhile, Senator Emmanuel “Manny” Pacquiao will remain People’s champion, according to Senator Panfilo M. Lacson. This was said by Lacson after the World Boxing Association (WBA) withdraw Pacquiao’s belt.

“They can take away all his championship belts but they cannot erase his 12 major world titles in eight different weight divisions record. Nobody even comes close. He is and will always be the People’s Champ,” Lacson said.

Meanwhile, the beneficiary of the move is the Yordenis Ugas of Miami. According to the report, he was upgraded from the WBA “World” to the WBA “Super” welterweight titlist.
