Joy Belmonte Blames QCPD for Social Distancing Negligence at Wil Tower

Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte seeks QCPD’s explanation of why social distancing was not observed in Wil Tower after Willie Revillame’s fans flock.

According to Belmonte, she wants to know the side of the police as there is no crowd control of the Philippine National Police (PNP) at the Wil Tower even though social gatherings are prohibited amid the threat of COVID-19.

Based on reports received by Belmonte’s office, someone allegedly persuaded a Facebook account that Revillame allegedly would hand out money outside his Mall in conjunction with his 60th birthday celebration yesterday.

The mayor said she will wait for the police report before issuing his decision on it. Before the TV Host’s birthday, he informed the mayor to put PNP crowd control in the area because his fans knew that his 60th birthday was coming up.

The mayor immediately instructed the QCPD to put police in the area to ban the influx of people. However, the influx of actor-host fans was still unstoppable which added due to the fake news.

QCPD Director, P / Gen. Danilo Macerin, said it is not true that there are no police in the area. According to Macerin, the Station Commander of Kamuning Police Station even reached until 4:00 am to lead the repatriation of people who flocked there.

The official explained that if the police did not control the people, it is possible that a larger number would flock there but due to the coordination of the police, the increase was prevented.

In this regard, Quezon Belmonte instructed the contact tracing team to reach out to all Willie Revillame fans who went outside the mall in Sgt. Esguerra Avenue, Brgy. South Triangle. Fans are now urged to undergo an RT-PCR test to find out if there was a COVID-19 infection.

The mayor is also in touch with Revillame’s secretary to help the local government call on fans to voluntarily go to City Hall to undergo a swab test. Belmonte wants to ensure the safety of the actor’s fallen fans outside the Will Tower Mall who are hoping for financial help.
