Metro Manila Mayors Recommend Extension GCQ Until February 2021

Metro Manila mayors expressed their support towards the extension of general community quarantine (GCQ) until next month.

On Thursday (January 28, 2021), Metro Manila Council (MMC) chairman and Parañaque City Mayor Edwin Olivarez reported that the city mayors are in favor of extending GCQ in the National Capital Region.

Olivarez 16 city mayors and one municipal mayor out of the entire council recommended the extension of GCQ. They asked the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases to extend the measure until February.

“Ang consensus po ng nakakarami, ng lahat, ng buong council yung 16 na city mayors at isang municipal mayor na irekomenda po sa ating IATF ay manatili po tayo sa GCQ sa darating na February,” Olivarez said.

The city mayor favored the GCQ extension to prevent the further spread of the coronavirus disease with the detection of the mutated variant, which is more infectious compared to the original one.
