Sultan Kudarat Encounter Killed 13 Individuals Including Police and an Ex-Captain

An encounter happened between a group and police in Sultan Kudarat, Maguindanao left 13 dead including 1 policeman and an ex-captain.

The clash between police and a group in Sultan Kudarat prompted after an attempt to arrest a former barangay captain who is facing criminal charges, based on the report of ABS-CBN News.

During the clash, the former captain Datu Pendatun Kato Talusan and eleven of his comrades died. A policeman was also killed in the incident while two other policemen were injured, according to Maguindanao police.

Authorities would have filed an arrest warrant for Talusan when the encounter took place. Based on the report, Talusan had previously survived an ambush in April 2020.

The injured policemen were rushed to the Cotabato Sanitarium hospital for treatment. The Maguindanao police report did not mention whether those on Talusan’s side were also rushed to the hospital.

The barangay chairman faces four cases: carnapping, robbery with homicide, double frustrated murder, and illegal possession of firearms. The Cotabato-Davao Road section was temporarily closed due to the incident.
