The president, identified as Anthony Apura, son of Carcar City Mayor Mercedita Apura and Vice Mayor Nicepuro Apura, was about to drive away from the parking area of Acacia Grill in Barangay Valladolid at 3:45 PM on Monday when gunshots rang out, according to Sunstar.

Assailants fired four shots, which hit the driver’s side of his car’s rear windshield. This indicates that Apura was the target.

Carcar Police Station chief Police Lt. Col. Allan Rosario said that Apura, who was with his friend, was able to crawl away from the vehicle. He merely sustained scratches on his hands, knees and other parts of his body.

Investigations show that assailants had parked their black vehicle about 20 meters behind Apura’s car.

They waited for him to leave from the restaurant and climbed into the councilor’s car, based on the report.

Rosario added that the assailants fled towards Cebu City in their black vehicle.

Witnesses had said that the suspects were aboard a black pick-up truck, while others say that they were in a black Asian utility vehicle (AUV).

Rosario said that they still have to verify all the information gathered at the crime scene and conduct further investigation.
