Davao City Residents Flee Due to Floodwaters After Davao River Overflows

Hundreds of Davao City residents have flee due to massive flooding after Davao river overflows caused by localized thunderstorms.

On Friday (January 15, 2020), the localized thunderstorms and easterlies brings heavy rains causing Davao River to overflow. The inclement weather condition causes flooding over Barangay Tamugan and Calinan district.

A portion of the road at Sitio Acasia in Barangay Tamugan collapsed and a house has been damaged due to the flooding based on Domieboy Gahoc’s video. Over 300 families have evacuated at the gym, according to the city government of Davao.

The local government unit conducts a preemptive evacuation in the villages located near Davao River before the massive flooding. The floodwaters have subsided around 10:00 pm on Friday and some residents returned to their respective houses.

Here is the list of affected of barangays and numbers of displaced residents:

  • Brgy. Lacson – 2 families and 7 individuals
  • Brgy. Gumalang – 2 families
  • Brgy. Waan – 10 families
  • Brgy. Ma-a – 29 families and 25 individuals
  • Brgy. Mandug – 30 families
  • Brgy. Tigatto – 300 individuals
  • Brgy. 2-A – 6 families
  • Brgy. 8-A – 27 families and 51 individuals
  • Brgy. Matina Crossing – Unknown number of residents
