President Donald Trump Banned From Major Social Media Such As FB, Twitter, IG
TRUMP BANNED FROM SOCIAL MEDIA – President Donald Trump was banned from FB, IG, and Twitter indefinitely following the riot in the US Capitol.
As Congress was about to certify Joe Biden’s win in the November 2020 elections, Trump incited his supporters to march to the Capitol. This eventually turned into a riot as angry supporters stormed the building and broke doors, windows, and furniture.
Fearing for their lives, Congress had to delay certifying Biden’s win. Luckily, the situation was controlled after a few hours and Biden’s victory was secured.
However, following the event, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerburg personally released a statement saying that his platform would ban Trump indefinitely.
“His decision to use his platform to condone rather than condemn the actions of his supporters at the Capitol building has rightly disturbed people in the US and around the world. We removed these statements yesterday because we judged that their effect — and likely their intent — would be to provoke further violence”
Furthermore, Zuckerberg also said that Trump would be banned from accessing his Instagram account. Along with this, the President was also banned from Twitter following the incident in the Capitol.
But, a day later, the social media platform lifted the ban with Trump having a different tone. In his first Tweet after the ban, he said:
Now that Congress has certified the results, a new administration will be inaugurated on January 20th…
My focus now turns to ensure a smooth, orderly, and seamless transition of power
Meanwhile, Facebook says it would ban Trump’s account for at least two weeks until a “peaceful transition of power is complete”.
