UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson Announces Lockdown and Affects Filipino Nurses
UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced another lockdown due to the new COVID-19 variant, Filipino nurses affected.
Around 18,500 Filipino health workers are now bracing for another variant of the coronavirus disease after the British leader Boris Johnson announced a nationwide lockdown to prevent the further spread of the disease.
A health worker named Rose Ann Viterbo-Soriano who is assigned at West Middlesex University Hospital in Isleworth, west London said that the medical facility has 400-bed capacity and it was already full.
Soriano said that most of the patients at the health center are COVID-19 patients. She expressed her fear due to the rising cases of the illness. The lady worker is still dealing with all the adjustments because she is still new in the country.
“I have thought about stopping but I have held on to this profession for a long time and I love doing this job despite all the risks. Now that [the pandemic] has been going on for a year, it seems rather normal already to be dealing with patients who have Covid. And sad to say, you will really get used to deaths when you’re dealing with Covid,” Soriano said.
The Johns Hopkins University’s Center for Systems Science and Engineering (JHU-CSSE) reported that 58,784 new Covid cases have been recorded in UK as of January 4, 2020.
