Filipino With UK COVID Variant Possibly Got Virus In Hong Kong Airport

FILIPINO WITH UK COVID VARIANT – According to the Octa Research Group, the Filipino who tested positive for the new coronavirus variant in Hong Kong may gave gotten infected in the airport.

Recently, social media was abuzz after health authorities from Hong Kong revealed a passenger from the Philippines tested positive for the new COVID-19 variant from the U.K. Although the new virus variant isn’t deadlier than previous strains, it’s much more transmissible.

Because of the news, some Filipinos fear that the U.K. variant may already be within our borders. However, Dr. Guido David believed that it was possible for the Filipino passenger to have contracted the virus strain in Hong Kong, not in the Philippines.

During an interview with ABS-CBN’s Teleradyo, he said:

Possible naman na ‘yung transmission nakuha niya locally, sa airport, so di pa naman natin masasabi talaga na meron dito pero s’yempre may malaking possibility

Still, David emphasized that there is still a “99 percent probability” that 1 in 5 travelers who got into the county before the travel ban was infected with the new strain. Furthermore, the OCTA researcher says that genome laboratories are working on samples that could possibly hold the new coronavirus strain.

Meanwhile, David urged the local and national government to impose stricter observation of social distancing and other health protocols. This includes wearing face masks, shields, and limits on mass gatherings.
