According to Manila Bulletin, Malapitan issued Ordinance No. 0648 S. 2016, which states that of the ban shall be meted a P5,000 fine and imprisonment of up to six months for every offense. This was issued as New Year’s Day celebration approaches.

The ban was in lieu of Resolution No. 20-17 S. 2020 which was passed by the Metro Manila Council. The said resolution aims to prevent mass gathering in celebrating the holiday season using firecrackers.

He reminded the residents to put into mind the safety of them and their own families

“Sa pagsalubong natin sa bagong taon, unahin nating isipin ang kaligtasan ng ating pamilya at sarili”

Malapitan added that the prohibition of the use of firecrackers will ensure that there will be no firework-related injuries, as well as to prevent the spread of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

“Sa pagbabawal ng pagpapaputok, matitiyak natin na maiiwasan ang firework-related injuries at mapipigilan din ang pagkakaroon ng hawahan ng COVID-19″

A copy of the executive order will also be sent to the heads of the city’s barangays for compliance, the mayor added based on the report.
