According to Panay News, the 61IB troops were conducting a security patrol operation at around 1 PM on Saturday when they happen to spot about 40 armed men.

The men were said to be members of the NPA’s Suyak Platoon of the Southern Front, Komiteng Rehiyon Panay (KR-P) who are under the command of a Joven Ceralvo. This came from a statement by 3rd Infantry Division spokesperson Major Cenon Pancito III.

The battle between 61IB troops and rebels lasted for 20 minutes until the insurgents retreated.

“No casualties were reported in our men. We’re still scouring the area,”

Recovered from the scene were one unit each of a 12-gauge shotgun, homemade shotgun, projector, binoculars and grenade; 10 backpacks; two cellular phones and anti-personnel mines; and subversive documents.

This occurred a day after the 52nd founding anniversary of the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) .

The CPP usually marks this event with attacks against the police and military, which are carried out by the NPA, its armed wing.

“More soldiers will be deployed on the ground to make sure that our units – at all times – are at the advantage position against terrorist groups,”

Brigadier General Marion Sison, commander of the 301st Infantry Brigade, commended the community for being vigilant on the presence of the communist rebels in the area, further urging the troops not to lower their guards, based on the report.

“Your army here in Panay will continue to protect and secure you from rebels,”
