According to Manila Bulletin, they were complaining that they are reeling from huge financial losses because of poor sales due to the ban on the sale and use of their products in certain local government units (LGUs).

They also appealed to the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) to only ban the use of fireworks that are among the included in the banned list.

The DILG, however, stressed that even without the ban of fireworks display, it is still up to the decision of the LGUs whether or not they will be prohibited for selling.

DILG Undersecretary Jonathan Malaya said that the merchants should first check with the LGUs if selling of said products are lawful in the concerned areas.

However, several merchants alleged that the DILG might have “twisted the arm’’ of the LGUs, which resulted in the total ban.

One of the merchants, identified as Ato Sobrejano, insisted the the Interior Department’s influence over the LGUs regarding the said ban is not farfetched.

“Karamihan ng mga mayor ilag sa DILG kaya pinagbawal talaga nila ang pagbebenta at paggamit nito (Most of the mayors are intimidated by the DILG that is why they banned its (fireworks) use and sale),’’

However, Año disclaim the said allegation, adding that it is within the authority and discretion of the Local Chief Executives to permanently ban the sale of fireworks.
