Cebu City Police Prank Arrest For Gift-Giving Slammed By CHR

This Cebu City Police prank received criticisms

Commission on Human Rights (CHR) slammed the Cebu City Police prank for their gift-giving activity.

At this time of the year, gift-giving is widely observed by many. For this holiday season, the police force of Cebu aimed to surprise employees of a mall.

Based on the report from GMA News, the four employees were called one by one. The Chief of the Cebu City Police was the one who acted like serving their warrant of arrest for alleged falsification of documents complaint.

Then, when the employees were about to reach the patrol car, the police sang a Christmas carol. After that, they were given gifts.

When an employee was asked about this, he said that they were shocked thinking that it was a real arrest but felt happy after finding out that it was a prank and that they were given gifts.

However, did not sit well with the CHR. The commission said that serving a warrant of arrest is an act that must be done in due process and should not be done as a prank.

In line with this issue, Senator Bato Dela Rosa spoke as he said that the Cebu City Police prank was unnecessary as they could just give gifts without putting the recipients in a very uncomfortable situation.

The Philippine National Police also expressed that they are not allowing this kind of a gimmick that the Cebu City Police did for their gift-giving.

PCol Joseph Ligan of Cebu City Police explained that they had no bad intention in doing the prank and he said that this kind of activity has been done before by officers prior to him.
