Karen Davila and Vickie Rushton speak about Plantation Bay issue about discriminating a child with special needs.

PLANTATION BAY ISSUE – Famous personalities Karen Davila and Vickie Rushton spoke about discrimination issue of Plantation Bay Resort.

In a previous article, luxury resort in Cebu, the Plantation Bay Resort And Spa, is now under investigation apparently over discriminating treatment they had given to a young boy with autism. Mai Pages, the mother of the boy with special needs revealed the heartless response of the resort’s management indicating that this luxurious resort is not a place for special children.

Manny Gonzalez, a shareholder of Plantation Bay resort, accused the mother of “deliberately lying” since “uncontrolled shouting is not a symptom of autism”. Her child has autism and he kept squealing while in the pool for being overjoyed. But it was difficult for the mother to stop her child from expressing his happiness after a lifeguard has advised her twice.

The Department of Tourism (DOT) has already tapped the Department of Justice (DOJ) to investigate the “poor handling” of the situation. And with this, Karen Davila and Vickie Rushton could not help but speak about the issue.

Karen, 50, has a son named David Sta. Ana, 17, who has autism while Vickie’s older brother, 31, has down syndrome. On Twitter, Karen lambasted Manny Gonzalez for schooling a parent of an autistic child and called him a “disgrace” to the tourism industry.

She then added, “Napakasama na insultuhin pa ng ganoon ang magulang gayung hindi naman siya duktor o eksperto sa autism.”

And the beauty queen whose advocacy is for children with special needs, expressed she can’t help but feel bad. She witnessed how some people can be mean with special kids and experienced being bullied for having a sibling with down syndrome.

But as per her, what these special people wanted are simple. She said, “I want to advocate for them because these children depend on us to voice out what they can’t say and to fight for them.”
