How much is the MMFF 2020 entry ‘Magikland’?
The MMFF 2020 entry Magikland has spent this amount of money for its production, Brightlight Productions owner Albee Benitez revealed.
This year, the Metro Manila Film Festival is facing a great challenge as cinemas are not yet open due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite this situation, the film fest organizers decided to go digital as this setup in the entertainment industry has become the new normal.
One of the entries for this year is the fantasy movie Magikland that was two-years in the making. Benitez, based on the article from Pilipino Star Ngayon, was asked how much he spent on the movie with the majority of the scenes have animation.
“Hindi ko na nga binibilang,” the former Negros Occidental congressman answered. However, he gave an estimated amount. Benitez said that he already spent more than P100 million.
“Considering the number of special effects, computer graphics, animation lumagpas na kami ng isang daan. If you look at it, parang secondary ‘yung business side ng film,” he shared.
He added that the main goal of the movie is to highlight the “culture/folklore nating Filipinos, second is to showcase ‘yung skills and talent of our Filipino computer graphics/animators.”
The film producer is also positive the works of Filipino can compete in the international market. For him, the MMFF 2020 entry Magikland “was designed really to showcase na kaya natin, Filipinos can, that’s why it took us couple of years.”
It was said that the cost of this movie’s production is equivalent to six other entries in the film fest this year. Benitez also shared that initially, they thought of backing out as they know that movie fans will appreciate Magikland more if it will be seen in theaters.
However, they are aiming to released this in cinemas as soon as it is already allowed.
