Lawyer In Cebu City Slain Outside His Office
CEBU CITY – A lawyer handling high-profile cases was recently murdered on Monday afternoon outside his law office in Cebu City.
The incident took place in the law office Alchi Business Center on J. Panis St. in Barangay Kasambagan in the city, according to a report from SunStar.
The fatality was identified as Joey Luis Wee, aged 51, who was shot by one of the two motorcycle-riding assailants.
Josefino Ligan, director of the local Police Office Director. is now looking to whether or not the murder was akin to his job since he had been handling big cases prior to the incident. However, drug cases was not among them.
His murder was condemned by the Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP) Cebu City Chapter, which is a group of lawyers.
“The brazen attack on our brother in the legal profession is taken as an attack on the whole legal community,”
Based on the report, the IBP also urged officials to bring the perpetrators to justice, adding that an “attempt to take any life will never be tolerated in a civilized society.”
This is, by far, the second shooting incident which involved lawyers in six weeks. The first was an attempt to ambush and assassinate James Joseph Gupana in Lapu-Lapu City in October 10, which he survived.
