Lawyer Shot To Death In Narra, Palawan
PALAWAN – A lawyer was recently shot to death along the national highway in Narra, Palawan on Tuesday morning.
The fatality was identified as Eric Jay Magcamit, aged 35, according to a report from GMA News.
Magcamit was driving along the national highway in Barangay Malinao in Narra when two unknown assailants stopped his car, shot him, then fled from the scene. This came from a report from the municipal pollice.
The Integrated Bar of the Philippines-Palawan Chapter added that the lawyer was on his way to a hearing in the town of Quezon in the province.
“It is our consistent stand that violence has no place in this civilized society, especially against those in the legal profession who are courageously helping in the administration of justice,”
“This tragic incident is not only an attack to a member of the IBP but also an attack to the legal order and justice system by means of fear and violence. The perpetrators must be swiftly brought into the hands of the law by those in authority,”
Based on the report, Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra said that he will urged the the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to aid the local police if necessary.
Over 50 lawyers, judges, and prosecutors have been slain since President Rodrigo Duterte assumed office in 2016. The judge that was killed before Magcamit was Manila Judge Maria Teresa Abadilla who was killed by her own clerk of court last week.
Lawyer Amador Rebato, Jr., the clerk of court who killed Abadilla, also died.
