Statement of Angelica Panganiban Over Body-Shaming Towards Angel Locsin in DepEd Module

ANGELICA PANGANIBAN – The Kapamilya actress-singer defended her fellow actress, Angel Locsin, over a viral module of the Department of Education (DepEd).

Currently, blended learning is the mode used by the Department of Education (DepEd) in the delivery of lessons. It is because of the COVID-19 pandemic wherein face-to-face set-ups are prohibited.

Teachers come-up with modules and distribute it to the students. The pupils answer these modules at home and submit it again for another batch of modules.

Recently, on social media, a module went viral for mentioning actress Angel Locsin in one of the activity questions. In the said question, the actress was described as an “obese” person which is considered as body-shaming.

Many people who love Angel Locsin defended the actress – one of them is her fellow actress and close friend, Angelica Panganiban. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, the Banana Sundae actress wrote in a comment to Rappler’s report that she does not believe Angel is just at home watching TV.

“I don’t think nakaupo lang si Angel sa bahay niya at nanonood ng TV. Busyng-busy po siya tumulong sa mga nasalanta. Bakit hindi kayo dun mag focus?” Angelica stated.

Angel is one of the celebrities who are usually visible in relief efforts whenever there is a typhoon. Based on the report, Tatler Asia named the actress as one of the Leaders of Tomorrow and she was also included in the “Heroes of Philanthropy” by Forbes Asia.

With regards to Angel’s reaction on the viral DepEd module, the actress urged an apology from the teacher who made the module. The Education Department in Occidental Mindoro has already apologized over the matter.
