Mayor Marcy Teodoro Seeks Help As Marikina Houses Submerge in Flood

Marikina Mayor Marcy Teodoro Calls National Government for Help

MAYOR MARCY TEODORO – The mayor of Marikina City is seeking help from the national government as many houses of residents submerge in flood.

Recently, several areas experienced heavy flooding as brought by Typhoon Rolly. PAGASA noted that there are still at least three storms that may enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) before 2020 ends.

While many areas have yet to recover from the impacts of Typhoon Rolly, another tropical storm, Typhoon Ulysses, entered the PAR. Many areas are currently facing heavy flooding now following massive rains.

Catanduanes is not only facing flood but as well as landslide triggered by Typhoon Ulysses. Many houses in Rizal are also submerged in flood water.

Recently, Marikina Mayor Marcy Teodoro also called for help from the national government. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, around 30,000 houses in his city are submerged in flood water as caused by Typhoon Ulysses.

Prior to Ulysses bringing heavy rainfall, the city has evacuated some 5,000 residents. However, beyond the expectation, the water level went past 18 meters.

“That’s the reason why many of our residents particularly those residing in areas which are not historically being flooded are stranded at this point in time,” Mayor Teodoro expressed.

Based on the report, Mayor Marcy Teodoro expressed that they have 50 rubber boats but these are not enough to rescue stranded people now amid the heavy flood in the city. Many people have climbed to their rooftops as flood water increases.

The Marikina Mayor has already spoken with the Philippine Coast Guard and the national disaster council. According to him, what is needed by his constituents now is air rescue as they are on top of their houses already.
