Government employees will receive their Christmas Bonus starting this week
The Salary Standardization 5 (Republic Act 11466) stated that the Christmas Bonus of government employees will be released every November.
It is expected that this week, employees of the government will start receiving bonuses, Rep. Mike Defensor of party-list Anakalusugan, chairman of the public accounts committee of the House of Representatives said.
Based on the article from the Philippine Star, the 1.5 million government workers will receive a bonus that is equivalent to a month’s salary. Aside from this, they will receive a cash gift worth P5,000.
“I am assuming that the budget secretary has released the funds needed for the payment of the government workers’ Christmas bonus and P5,000 cash gift,” Cong. Defensor said.
He stressed that this was stated in National Budget Circular 579 that was issued by the Department of Budget and Management last January. The lawmaker added that if the budget is ready, agencies can start giving the bonuses on November 15.
“And since this week’s payday falls on Sunday, the bonus could be advanced as early as Thursday for personnel on a four-day workweek, or Friday for those on the usual five-day work schedule, or on Monday,” the lawmaker said.
Rep. Defensor also said that in 2019, the Christmas Bonus of government employees was also released mid-November. He also advised the employees who intend to do their holiday shopping after receiving the bonus to do it as early as possible to avoid the holiday rush.
The lawmaker also urged public sector employers to release early the 13th-month pay or year-end bonus of their workers. He added that by doing this, the gesture of compassion is being shown.
