Denmark Discovered Mutated Coronavirus Disease on Mink

Denmark government is killing a large mink population after discovering a coronavirus mutation that can spread to humans.

The country, which is the world’s largest supplier of mink fur, is now facing economic collapse after health authorities discovered a mutated coronavirus strain in the animals and people. This, prompted nationwide cull and stricter lockdown measures.

Based on the report of BBC, the government would kill all minks – up to 17 million – to prevent human infection with a mutated coronavirus, which authorities say may be more resistant to vaccines in the future vaccines.

Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederikse said Danish officials have seen the mutated virus displays a weak reaction to antibodies. Danish officials have already reached out to the World Health Organization and the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control.

According to the WHO, there are twelve people who have been diagnosed with the virus strain so far. About 200 coronavirus cases in total can be traced to exposure from the mink.

Meanwhile, thousands of minks recently died in Utah after the coronavirus swept through farms. Spain also culled 100,000 minks in July after cases were detected at a farm in Aragón province.

Tens of thousands of the animals were also slaughtered in the Netherlands following outbreaks on farms. Studies are underway to find out how and why mink have been infected and spread the infection.
