A group of hog raisers in Pampanga described the African swine fever is way worse than the coronavirus pandemic.
Over the past few months, the African swine fever spread in various countries all around the world and affect thousands of hogs in the Philippines. It causes a huge problem to the Filipino hog raisers.
Recently, Pampanga Swine Producers Association President Wency Tangcongco said that the hog raisers in Pampanga are struggling with ASF for having no cure as of this time. He said that it is quite worse than the coronavirus disease.
“Walang sinabi sa COVID-19, napakahirap ng ASF, mahirap po pigilan ang ASF kasi kahit anong disinfectant po gamitin namin, magspre-spray kami maghapon tapos bago pumasok isang araw pero tinatamaan pa din kami,” Tangcongco said.
Association Manager ng Pampanga Swine Producers Association Toto Gonzales said that a lot of hog raisers in the province have huge debts after their hogs died due to ASF. He also said that they have reserved some hogs.
According to Department of Agriculture Assistant Secretary Kristine Evangelista, around 100,000 hogs from Visayas and Mindanao have been already delivered in Luzon to ensure sufficient supply of pork in the country.
