Miss Catanduanes Wore Kim Chiu Gown As Her National Costume
KIM CHIU – Sigrid Grace Flores of Catanduanes wore Kim Chiu’s gown as her national costume.
The preliminary competition of the Miss Universe Philippines 2020 pageant was held on Friday, October 23, at Baguio Country Club in Baguio City. Miss Bohol Pauline Amelinckx was the only candidate who has multiple recognitions before the coronation day.
3 major components of MUP formed the preliminaries: the national costume, swimsuit, and evening gown. Mandaue City’s bet Lou Dominique Piczon won Best in National Costume.
But did you know that one of the MUP candidates wore Kim Chiu’s gown as her national costume? Based on a report from ABS-CBN, the actress’ gown during the 2019 ABS-CBN Ball had another moment in the spotlight as it was worn by Miss Catanduanes Sigrid Grace Flores.
According to the report, Kim Chiu’s gown called “Traje de Magdalena” was designed by Benj Leguiab IV. The gown is said to be inspired by the Filipina guerilla fighter, Magdalena Leones.
Sigrid Grace Flores’ headdress that shaped like a chicken was added to complete her look. It represents Catanduanes’ Manok-manok festival.
In an interview with PEP, Benj Leguiab IV said it was Sigrid Grace Flores who chose to wear Kim Chiu dress for MUP’s national costume competition. The beauty queen picked the gown as it was “very similar” to what she imagined a Cantanduanon would wear.
Iloilo’s rep Rabiya Mateo won the MUP title over heavily-favorite candidates during the finals. Her victory turned controversial after Taguig’s Sandra Lemonon posted cryptic messages on her Instagram stories. Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray defended the 23-year-old Ilongga from criticisms.
