Cayetano Asserts Velasco Not Installed During A Congress Session
VELASCO – Marinduque Representative Lord Allan Velasco reacted to the statement of Taguig-Pateros Rep. Alan Peter Cayetano that the Celebrity Sports Club is not Congress.
The House of Representatives is undeniably divided now by the speakership issue. There are those who support the term-sharing agreement between Marinduque Rep. Lord Allan Velasco and Taguig-Pateros Rep. Alan Peter Cayetano while there are those who don’t see the need to follow it now.
Based on the term-sharing agreement, Marinduque Representative will replace the Taguig-Pateros Representative as the speaker of the House this October 15.
President Rodrigo Roa Duterte is not taking any side on the issue despite previous warning that lawmakers must solve it or he will be the one to do so. According to Malacanang, the concern of the President is the passing of the 2021 national budget.
The Senate is also after the proceedings of the 2021 national budget which is affected by the House speakership issue. Presidential son and Davao Congressman Paolo Duterte also did not take any side.
Presidential daughter Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte’s party, Hugpong ng Pagbabago, supports the term-sharing agreement. The Marinduque Representative has visited Davao to seek the help of the Mayor.
Yesterday, in a session held at Celebrity Sports Club in Quezon City, Marinduque Rep. Lord Allan Velasco was elected as the House Speaker. However, Taguig-Pateros Rep. Alan Peter Cayetano stressed that the venue where the session was held is not Congress.
To this, Velasco reacted. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, the Marinduque Representative stressed that the session does not have to be at Batasang Pambansa. He stressed that during the Taal incident it was also moved.
