“Give Reasonable Workload” To Students – DepEd Reminds Teachers

Teachers Urged To Give Students Reasonable Workload

GIVE REASONABLE WORKLOAD – The Department of Education reminded teachers to provide students with a reasonable amount of work for their online classes.

As the online classes ramps up, thousands of students have complained about heavy workloads from their classes. Many netizen students expressed that they have become burnt-out due to the amount of work needed to pass requirements. Some even say that it’s not about learning anymore, instead about passing subjects.

Because of this, DepEd reminded the teachers that some activities in the self-learning modules were simply optional to avoid stress and burnout. Furthermore, Diosdado San Antonio, undersecretary for curriculum and instruction, emphasized that it’s up to the teacher and school heads to decide which activities could be made optional.

Based on a report from ABS-CBN, San Antonio also reiterated that teachers should forego giving extra work for students during weekends.

The official start of public classes for school year 2020-2021 began last Monday, October 5. However, there were already several complaints from students both from modular schemes and online learning schemes.

Along with this, a petition to cancel academic year 2020-2021 surpassed it’s initial goal of 300,000 signatures. Now, the movement set a goal for 500,000 signatures and is currently at 349,000.
