The Philippines is located in the Southeast Asia.

It consists of areas that are geographically south of China, east of the Indian subcontinent and north-west of Australia.

It is also bordered by East Asia to the north, South Asia and the Bay of Bengal to the south, Oceania and the Pacific Ocean to the east, and Australia and the Indian Ocean to the south.

It also covers an area of about 4.5 million kilometers squared or nearly 1.8 million square miles.

Europeans know the region, along with South Asia as the East Indies, while the Chinese named the region as Nanyang (南洋) which means the “Southern Ocean”.
