Manila Bay: Netizen Shares Photos Of White Sand Wash Out To Sea

Manila Bay ‘White Sand’ Swept Out To Sea

MANILA BAY – A netizen shared several photos of Manila Bay’s ‘white sand’ washed out to the sea.

Crushed dolomite from Cebu was dumped along the shores of Manila Bay. It is part of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources’ (DENR) Manila Bay Rehabilitation Project.

The agency said they consulted experts and agencies before they implemented their makeover project. DENR Undersecretary Benny Antiporda said putting white sand on the shore will discourage people from littering in the area. The beautification project has a budget of PHP 389 million.

On Saturday, September 19, the government temporarily opened Manila Bay to the public for the International Coastal Clean-up Day. Hundreds of people flock to the area to see the white sand personally. However, quarantine protocols were violated during the opening of the dolomite beach.

Based on a report from Manila Bulletin, Senate President Tito Sotto III expressed his concern that the artificial white sand would wash out to sea after some time.
