Danao City Mayor Imposes Liquor Ban From Sept. 19 to 21

DANAO CITY LIQUOR BAN – Mayor Ramon Durano III issued Executive Order No. 47 which orders the implementation of a three-day liquor ban.

The liquor ban is timed with the celebration of the its annual feast for its patron saint, Sto. Tomas de Villanueva. Usually, during this festive period, people gather and drink to celebrate. As such, with the imposition of the liquor ban, the Mayor hopes to dissuade such gatherings.

Along with this, residents are urged not to invite non-city residents into their households during the period. Still, Danao has been free from new COVID-19 cases in the last three days. However, the threat of a potential rise in cases still remain.

According to an article from Inquirer, the Mayor explained that during their fiesta celebration, people would gather to drink liquor. When that happens, there would be a greater chance for close contact as people would forget observing health protocols.

With the liquor ban active, stores would be banned from selling alcoholic drinks. Furthermore, residents are warned against drinking liquor outside public areas while Danao goes under quarantine.

As per the article, Mayor Durano said that while the COVID-19 curve began to flatten, the city government would continue to implement protocols to prevent its spread.
