Bacolod City Mayor Leonardia Apologizes For Expired Food Packs
BACOLOD CITY – Bacolod Mayor Evelio Leonardia apologized for the alleged expired food packs that the government recently distributed.
The rumored expired food packs were distributed via the Department of Social Services and Development (DSSD), according to a report from Panay News.
Members of an activist group made complaints that the food packs contained “stinky” low-cost rice and expired instant noodles.
United Negros Drivers and Operators Center (UNDOC) secretary general Diego Malacad said that the complaints came from about 200 members of the said group.
Leonardia explained that some of the rice have discoloration due to getting wet while they were being stored in the school gymnasium.
“Some of the rice have discoloration because they may have gotten wet while being stored in the school gymnasium,”
The mayor also explained that the noodles were procured this July and was supposed to be distributed on the same month.
He added, however, that the city government decided to reserve the food packs in times of need since it was also the distribution of the emergency cash assistance from the national government’s Social Amelioration Program (SAP).
Based on the report, Leonardia appealed to people who receive expired noodles to raise their concern to the DSSD.
The IATF-EID (Inter-Agency Task Force on Emerging Infectious Disease) placed the city under a modified enhanced quarantine status on Sept. 8 due to the rising of number of local infections.
