Pinay Transgender Mela Habijan Named Miss Trans Global 2020

MISS TRANS GLOBAL 2020 – Pinay transgender Mela Franco Habijan was crowned Miss Trans Global 2020 in an online pageant.

Filipina transgender Mela Franco Habijan was an actress, LGBTQ advocate, performer, entrepreneur, and writer in ABS-CBN. She was crowned as Miss Trans Global 2020 during a virtual coronation ceremony on Saturday, September 13.

Habijan bagged several awards such as “Glam Beauty of The Year,” “Eloquent Queen of The Year,” and “Super Model of The Year.” She confirmed the wonderful news on her Facebook account. “Pilipinassss, we won! We wonnnnnnn!!! We are the first-ever Miss Trans Globalllll! Lorddddd!!! Maraming, maraming salamat pooooo!!!” she wrote.

Runners-up for the online pageant are Australia’s Rebeckah Loveday (1st runner-up); Ghana’s Veso Golden (2nd runner-up); South Africa’s Semakaleng Sma Mothapo (3rd runner-up), and Sweden’s Danielly Drugge (4th runner-up).

According to its official website, the pageant is an “international online pageant for trans and gender nonconforming people from all backgrounds, which was started to raise awareness on transgender and LGB issues around the world.”

The winner of the pageant will become the community’s spokesperson. She will work digitally to bring positive changes internationally.

Mela Franco Habijan took to her Instagram account to thank her supporters. She also honors the slain transgender woman Jennifer Laude and other trans Filipina.

“My heart is grateful for the messages of love that I have been receiving from everyone! Maraming, maraming salamat sa inyo! Inspirasyon ko kayong lahat…”

“This is truly a defining moment in my life – a childhood dream that came true, a celebration of my truth, a testament of the love and acceptance that I get from the world, and my little way of honoring the life and dignity of Jennifer Laude and other trans Pinays ridiculed and oppressed by the society,” she wrote.
