QC Campaign Offers Cash Prizes to Barangays with Effective COVID-19 Measures

Quezon City (QC) government offers cash prizes to encourage barangays to prevent the spread of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) starting in their own house.

This is a competition for several barangays in Quezon City. This competition is among barangays that should identify the most number of suspected and possible COVID-19 cases and the lowest number of persons found infected by the virus.

Barangays will be grouped into clusters according to population size. The members of each cluster will compete with each other. Winners will receive P50,000 for small barangays, P100,000 for medium barangays, and P200,000 for large barangays.

Barangay officials were directed to find active cases and conduct monitoring activities through the Barangay Health Emergency Response Team and Barangay contact tracers.

They will visit every house within the barangay to identify people who are showing symptoms of the disease or have had a close relationship with a confirmed case. Individuals identified as potential cases will undergo swab testing, comprehensive contact monitoring, and quarantine.

“Ang totoong zero case ay kapag wala ka nang nade-detect na kaso do’n sa inyong barangay,” QC Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit chief Rolly Cruz said.

“Ang strategy ay unahan natin ‘yung virus. Protektahan natin ‘yung paglaganap nito within the community,” he added.

Meanwhile, there are six barangays in QC that have no longer active cases of COVID-19. This includes barangay Philam, Santa Cruz, Blue Ridge B, Claro, Horseshoe, and New Era.

“Kilangang mapatunayan natin na natigil na natin ang community transmission ng COVID-19. Kaya ‘Race to Zero’ tayo,” Cruz added.
