Angelica Panganiban Asks: “Bakit ba takot na takot kayo sa media?”

ANGELICA PANGANIBAN – Kapamilya actress Angelica Panganiban has this reaction after MTRCB shares plan to regulate streaming platforms.

Kapamilya actress Angelica Panganiban is among the most famous artists in the country who is also vocal over issues of the country. She started as a child star and now one of the most in demand actresses in the country.

However, her network, ABS-CBN, was currently shut down after their 25-year franchise got expired. Unfortunately, they were not granted of another and fresh franchise and is only reaching out to their loyal viewers through their pages in various digital platforms.

On Twitter, Angelica expressed her frustrations about it asking why they fear the media and entertainment. After killing the free TV, it seems like they wanted to control everything and she added, “Tinatamaan ba kayo? Kasi masyadong malapit sa totoong buhay ang napapanood niyo?”

In another post, she also expressed her disbelief that the are now planning to regulate streaming platforms such as Netflix and Amazon Prime Video. She would accordingly wouldn’t be shocked if one day she wakes up the country would be like North Korea.

The Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) is planning the regulation of streaming platforms to which lawmakers opposed. They insist that these platforms must just be allowed go on with self-regulating their content. 

Senate Minority Leader Franklin Drilon said on Friday that this is very impractical. MTRCB’s legal affairs division chief  Atty. Jonathan Presquito stated that through regulating the contents from these platforms would ensure that they are compliant with the law.

According to Inquirer, other lawmakers also slammed the plan from the MTRCB where Sen. Grace Poe, a former chair, said it is “counterproductive and ridiculous”. While Peter Cayetano also lambasted it saying that the people are currently facing a lot of problems and this is what they are prioritizing.

“What decade is it anyway? What makes this even more mind-boggling is that, in the first place, MTRCB has no jurisdiction over Netflix and other online content,” he also said as per report.
