House-to-House Pre-registration of National ID Eyed to Start on October

The house-to-house pre-registration process for the National ID System may start on October, says Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA).

The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) may begin the house-to-house pre-registration process for the National ID System in October in preparation for the scheduled mass registration, according to Socioeconomic Planning Secretary Karl Chua.

Based on the report of Phil star, the pre-registration process aims to shorten the time people spend in registration centers. Under such a system, the names; age, and other demographic information will be collected at citizens’ homes.

Biometric information such as fingerprints, iris scans, and front-facing photographs will be taken at registration centers on the appointment date.

“Starting in October, we can start the house-to-house pre-registration. There will be an appointment system in which you will only go to registration centers for the biometrics,” said Sec. Karl Chua.

This will ensure that the social distancing requirements can be properly implemented amid the pandemic. This also aims to reduce the number of people expected to go at the same time to register.

Based on the report, the PSA said that “unbanked, low-income families” will be prioritized in the National ID System. The National ID System or Philippine Identification System (PhylSys) aims to provide valid proof of identity to all Filipinos and resident aliens.

This will make transactions with government agencies easier and simpler because they will only have to show one ID. Many Filipinos can now open a bank account, which is difficult to provide with some IDs requested by banks.

Five million heads of the family are expected to be registered this year and 40 million next year. Sec. Chua that it also depends on the quarantine status of the country.

If GCQ is said to speed up the process, it is also necessary to take extra precautions because the health of the people should not be compromised. As of now, several parts of the country is still under strict community quarantine as the number of COVID-19 case is still rising.
