PhilHealth: Senior Citizen Member Declared ‘Dead’ In Agency’s Records

PhilHealth: Senior Citizen Shocked to Learn He Died 4 Years Ago

PHILHEALTH – A senior citizen said Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) listed him as “deceased” since September 15, 2016.

The Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) has come under fire over the past weeks over corruption allegation. In a Senate hearing on August 4, a whistleblower revealed that officials at the state firm stole some P15 billion from the agency.

In a previous article, a roof leak at PhilHealth Region 1’s office compromised some computers and documents of the agency. Upon learning the incident, Senator Christopher “Bong” Go urged the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to protect all the documents of the state firm to preserve the integrity of the government’s investigation. He and Sen. Panfilo Lacson suspect something fishy over the office’s ‘roof leak.’

Based on a report from GMA News, a senior citizen named Efren Aguilar was shocked to learn that his membership data at PhilHealth listed him as “deceased. The man is still alive and well, he said he learned of his “death” when he accompanied his helper for a lab test at a hospital on Aug. 21.

According to the report, Aguilar also said that the last time he availed of his benefits was in 2012. PhilHealth corporate communications senior manager Rey Balena apologized for the error.

Ano’t anuman, mayroon tayong paraan at solusyon para maitama ‘yan,” he assured.
