NCCA, CCP Open Nominations for National Artist of the Philippines
NATIONAL ARTS OF THE PHILIPPINES – The National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) and the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) announced that they are now accepting nominations for the Order of National Artist Award.
The Order of the National Artists is the highest national recognition given to a Pinoy who made a significant contribution to Philippine arts. It is jointly administered by the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) and the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) and proclaimed by the President of the Philippines.
In 2018, President Rodrigo Roa Duterte honored seven artists in their respective fields. Among those awarded include Ryan Cayabyab for music, Larry Alcala for visual arts, and Kidlat Tahimik for film.
Based on a report from Business World, the nominations for the new National Artists are now being accepted. The CCP and the NCCA are now accepting nominations.
NCCA and CCP said the nominee should only be nominated under 1 category, where an artist made his/her “most substantial contribution.” The categories open for nominations are Visual Arts, Architecture and allied arts, Theater, Dance, Music, Design, Literature, and Film and broadcast.

The National Artist title is given to Pinoy artists who have meet the following criteria:
• Living artists who are Filipino citizens at the time of nomination and at the awarding, as well as those who died after the establishment of the award in 1972 but were Filipino citizens at the time of their death;
• Artists who through the content and form of their works have contributed in building a Filipino sense of nationhood;
• Artists who have pioneered in a mode of creative expression or style, thus earning distinction and making an impact on succeeding generations of artists;
• Artists who have created a substantial and significant body of works and/or consistently displayed excellence in the practice of their art form, thus enriching artistic expression or style; and,
• Artists who enjoy broad acceptance through prestigious national and/or international recognition, such as the Gawad CCP para sa Sining, CCP Thirteen Artists Award, and NCCA Haraya Awards (Alab and Dangal).
According to the report, the deadline for the submission of nominations is on or before December 15.
