OARFISH – Residents of Agusan del Norte province found a giant oarfish which some say is a bad omen.

So, was the fish a bad omen for an earthquake? Netizens say yes!

One netizen cited an article that said: “An article posted on National Geographic’s website said that oarfish are known in Japan as the “Messenger from the Sea God’s Palace.” However, there is no scientific basis between sightings and earthquakes.

Meanwhile, some recall there experience with seeing the oarfish in their area. One netizen wrote:

When I was in Palompon, Leyte I think year 2016 we also saw an oarfish. After a month there was an earthquake and if I remember it right it was intensity 5 in Ormoc Leyte. We also felt the earthquake in Palompon it was around intensity 2.

Another netizen claimed that the if the oarfish was lying dead or injured on the shore, it is considered a sign of a natural disaster. Furthermore, 20 oarfish were found in Japan in 2011 just before the Tsunami in Japan.
