The Mangyan, identified as Bapa Lido, said that he wore a a coconut shell mask after knowing that it is mandatory to wear face masks, according to a report from GMA News.

Since ha cannot afford one, Lido made a face mask and an eye shield out of coconut shells from trees which surrounds his residense.

The Mangyan first cleaned the shell and measured it on his face. He then carved it in a way that there will be no sharp edges once he wears it.

He then inserted a string made of rubber from a broken tire after he punched holes from the mask. He used the other half of the shell to make an eye shield.

Lido admitted that he tried wearing a cloth face mask but he found it difficult.

“Hindi ko kaya baga ang amoy kasi ang sarili ko hindi naman sanay sa pabango. Ang hininga ko dito sa bao parang kinayuran din ng niyog”

Based on the report, the Mangyan said that he makes sure to wear his face mask and shield every time he goes out.

Fortunately, the municipality of Bulalacao, Occidental Mindoro, where he reside in, does not have any positive cases of COVID-19 as of the moment.

“Mas maganda ako’y nakauna para nakahanda agad”

“Mahirap na kasi baka nga dumating din ang COVID.”

Lido said that he wore the makeshift gear for 10 hours every day and it naver left a mark on on his face nor hurt him due to its perfect fit.
